Before you begin, the guide assumes the following:
- You have an active IntelliRoute with MileMaker license.
- You have a copy of IntelliRoute with MileMaker installed on your machine. [Install Guide]
- You have a copy of Microsoft Excel installed on your machine.
Important considerations for this installation:
- The architecture of your IntelliRoute with MileMaker application must be the same as your Excel installation.

Q: How do I tell what the architecture for IntelliRoute is?
A: In IntelliRoute, click on Help in the top menu bar, then click on About. Find the serial number displayed on the screen. If the serial number ends in SA, your installation is 32-bit, if the serial number ends in SA64, your installation is 64 bit.
Q: How do I tell what the architecture for Microsoft Excel is?
A: You can find this by launching Excel, clicking File in the top-left hand corner, clicking on Account in the bottom left-hand corner, then clicking on "About Excel"
Starting the Installation Process
As of December 2024, IntelliRoute Enhanced automatically attempts to setup and configure the add-in. If you recently upgraded or replaced your installation, it is recommended to verify the regserver command is successful before proceeding.
Running the Regserver Command:
You will need to run Command Prompt as an Administrator and paste the command below into the command window.
For 32-bit installations:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Rand McNally\IntelliRoute\ApiBin\IntelliTextExcelSA.ocx"
For 64-bit installations:
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Rand McNally\IntelliRoute\ApiBin\IntelliTextExcelSA.ocx"
If successful, you should see the following dialog:

Importing the Add-in
- To begin, launch Microsoft Excel
- In Excel, click on the "File" button
- In the bottom left-hand corner, click on "Options"
- In the dialog "Excel Options" that appears, click on 'Add-ins' in the sidebar
- In the bottom center of the right pane, click on "Go" next to Manage: Excel Add-ins
- In the Add-ins dialog, if any 'IREXCEL' add-in exists, uncheck it first
- Next, in the Add-ins dialog, click on 'Browse'
- You'll now search for the Add-in, the fastest way to tell where your Add-in resides, is based on the architecture.
For 32-bit installs, the add-in resides at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Rand McNally\IntelliRoute\APIBin\
For 64-bit installs, the add-in resides at:
C:\Program Files\Rand McNally\IntelliRoute\APIBin\ - Once you have navigated into one of these folders, you should be presented with the following:
Simply, click on irexcel.xla, and then select "OK" - Your installation is now complete, it is recommended to close and re-open excel after this process is completed.
Testing your new installation
To test your new installation, we'll run the distance for Atlanta, GA to Chicago, IL using HHG (Household Goods)
In Cell A1, enter: Atlanta, GA
In Cell A2, enter: Chicago, IL
In Cell B1, enter: =HHG(A1,A2)
If properly installed, you should be returned the distance in the example image below.
